Great Prospect, Great Pitfall, Great Persuasion

• Life in the Spirit is better for now & forever
• Life in the Flesh is terrible forever
• Spirit alive we go to Heaven
• Spirit dead we go to eternal death

Two Destinations
• Luk 13:5 “I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
• Repent & live – Destination Heaven – Eternal Life
• If not – Perish – Destination Damnation – Eternal Death

Knowledge Never To Ignore
Close Attention to the Word or Drift Away
Heb 2:1-3 For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it. (2) For if the word spoken through angels proved unalterable, and every transgression and disobedience received a just penalty,
• Confirmed Salvation or Neglect Salvation
• (3) how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation? After it was at the first spoken through the Lord, it was confirmed to us by those who heard, –
• How is Salvation confirmed to you?
• What is our responsibility – as those who heard?
• When Titanic was sinking, Carpathian went from far to save, but the nearer ship SS California, though better equipped, did not respond to the SOS & many died in the frozen waters, because of the delay.

Great Prospect – Battle Between Transient & Eternal
• Great Prospect – 2Co 4:18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
• Life of the spirit is more than life of the mind & body.

• Battle Between Earth House & Heaven Home

• 2Co 5:1 For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a home not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
• “We” is not body but our spirit that knows the heavenly abode – In many the spirit may be suffocating

Great Presentation & Great Persuasion
• Great Presentation – 2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
• Great Persuasion – 2Co 5:11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest to God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences.
• Great Pitfall – 2Co 5:20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God

Titanic – Saved & Lost
• Titanic – Last message: ‘We are sinking fast….cannot last much longer‘ – The Great Ship was supposedly unsinkable, but she sank in the North Atlantic on April 15th 1912 at 2.40 am. One reason for the disaster was that they did not carry life boats for all passengers. When asked at onset, the Captain said – not even God can sink the Titanic
• Some were the richest in the world. Others were poor blue collar workers.
• At shore their names were posted in two simple and unmistakable columns – SAVED and LOST.
• In the end that was the only difference that truly mattered.

Lessons from Titanic – sank on April 15th 1912
• Did not take enough lifeboats because the Captain said – “Even God cannot sink this ship”.
• Because of this belief, even when early reports of icebergs came, the Titanic did not reduce speed. Captain wanted to reduce speed but the proprietor on board said, “we must get into the news by arriving at 8 am”. When the ship was sinking the Captain said, “Now you will get into the News”.
• Two watch outs on the Crow’s Nest had no binoculars
• Captain went to sleep – father you are the Captain of your family ship – do not go to sleep
Iceberg Identified Too Late – Urgent Messages Ignored
• Wireless officer of the Titanic was doing his own messages and did not receive the danger message sent by SS Californian. He said, “Shut up you idiot” about the warning he should have heeded.
• Iceberg – more out of sight (do you have a problem which is like the tip of an iceberg)
• Identified Iceberg too late – trying to turn late, the damage from collision on the side was great
• Of the crew, only the Fourth Officer escaped – his wife was praying past midnight until 4 am when he was picked up by a lifeboat

Titanic Human Toll – Saved & Lost
• Total on board: 2,223
• Saved: 706 (1 out of 3)
• Lost: 1,517
• Woman and children on board: 531
• Woman and children saved: 374
• Men on board: 1,692
• Men saved: 332 (1 out of 5)
• Chance of survival of a First-Class passenger: 60%
• Chance of survival of a Third-Class passenger:
• Good Soil – Destination Heaven
• Mar 4:14 “The sower sows the word.
• Mar 4:20 “And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil;
• and they hear the word
• and accept it
• and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.

Wayside – Satan Robs to Destruction 1
Destination Damnation
• Mar 4:4 as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up.
• Luk 8:5 “The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up.
• Mar 4:15 “These are the ones who are beside the road where the word is sown; and when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them.

Affliction & Persecution – Fall Away 2 – Destination Damnation
• Mar 4:16 “In a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy; Mar 4:17 and they have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary; then, when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away.

Growing Thorns – Seed Overcome 3 – Destination Damnation
You Overcome or You’ll be overcome
• Mar 4:18 “And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word,
• Mar 4:19 but the worries of the world,
• and the deceitfulness of riches,
• and the desires for other things
• enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Are You Ignorant?
• If we don’t know somethings we can look very foolish.
• Sri Lanka Independence day
• President of USA
• Who is the composer of….
• Who is the captain of the Australian cricket team…
• Who was the only cricketer ever to get 4 wkts in 4 balls twice
• Hope & Joy of Heaven – Life beyond life keeps us own course. Reverence & wonder encourage us to keep the course
• Foreboding of Eternal Punishment & Loss keep us sober
Kingdom of God Now – Father of Our Spirits
• Great Prospect – 2Co 4:18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.
• Salvation of the soul is the most important unseen issue. If we miss this for ourselves or those whom we know we live in ignorance of what is most important
• (Heb 12:9) Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?

Kingdom of God Rules in the Spirit
• Kingdom of God Rules in the Spirit – Citizens make citizens
• Joh_3:5 Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. – begin now to enter
• Rom_14:17 kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
• Kingdom Citizens make Kingdom Citizens
• Luk 14:23 “And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.

The Best Is Coming
• Joh 14:2-3 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. (3) “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
• Since heaven is true & is where ultimate righteousness dwells, we are undeterred by present encumbrances
• We are unmoved by present threats
• We are not wasting energy in protests – best is coming
• We are not distracted by earth’s gall or glitz

Since We Have A Great Prospect
2Co 4:13-17 Since we have the same spirit of faith according to what has been written, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we also believe, and so we also speak,
• – spirit of faith carries us beyond today & for more & believes only what God can do – We believe & We Speak
• Gal 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please
• Kingdom of darkness will work with our flesh to send us to hell & keep us silent from witnessing

Spirit of Faith is not

• Presumption
• Superstition
• Wishful hope for the best
• Fearful pleading
• Wait & see
• I’ll take it as it comes
• I’ll mind my business
• Spirit of Faith is moved by what matters most to God

Lord Jesus Will Raise us –

• (14) knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence.
• Lord Jesus Will Raise us –
• Now from sin to New life – Living in His Presence
• From what diminishes us to God’s full potential
• In every life need, into His able presence
• Raise us from a decaying body to full life in heaven
• In the future from Death to Eternal Life – Living in His Presence

Into His Presence
• Pro 20:27 The spirit of man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the innermost parts of his being
• His presence in us
• His presence thru us
• Bring another into His presence
• Bring issues to the spirit of faith

Grace Extends To More
• 2 Cor 4 (15) For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.
• Grace extends to more – Ever Expanding Life
• Grace extends to all whom we know
• We expect eternal perspective in daily living
• God is turning bad to good
• (16) So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. (17) For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,

Great Pitfall & Great Conspiracy
• Mat 25:41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
• Great Conspiracy
• Make the critical decision of receiving as late as possible –
• Keep the decision as secret as possible
• We believe the weather forecast & take action
• We don’t believe God’s forecast & take action.

Rich & Poor Man – Conclusions
• Poor man Lazarus clung to God & did not give up on God during Life Adversity
• Rich man had no time for God in Life prosperity
• There is consciousness after death
• Heb 9:27 And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment,
• Cannot change the place after death by post mortem prayers
• Rich man’s Last Request was help my family

Two Kinds of Sowing
• Spirit of Faith for Life Now with God & for Life Beyond
• Gal 6:7-8 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. (8) For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
• Two Kinds of Sowing
• Spirit & Life – Heaven
• Flesh & Death – Hell

Two Gates & Two Roads
• Mat 7:13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it.
• Mat 7:14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Good Tree vs Bad Tree
• Mat 7:17-19 “So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. (18) “A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. (19) “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Serve or Serve Not
• Mal 3:16-18 Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, and the LORD gave attention and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the LORD and who esteem His name. (17) “They will be Mine,” says the LORD of hosts, “on the day that I prepare My own possession, and I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him.” (18) So you will again distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and on e who does not serve Him.
